Welcome to the life of a medic. Yes, as you would think out there that it is all about books, then you are mistaken. Next year, you should come and book for a ticket for the annually held Mr. and Miss Nunsa event. Come and enjoy with fellow medics too.
These are medical students from the World Class and Prestigious University , The University of Nairobi. We realize that the prestige of life is not built on books alone, but on the social and behavioral aspects of life too.
The day was well awaited for as the talks of the oncoming event had dug roots in the faculty of health sciences. It was to be held on a Friday evening at Safari Bowling Gardens, Parklands Nairobi. That very day, at around 8pm, students clad in their best attires were all in their respective stations ready for the transit vehicle to the endowed club. When you here a medic party, you should get to understand that the medics themselves eagerly wait for such events due to their hectic life in school. It is a kind of relief from the tedious work and stress associated with our profession to save the human race. In addition, if someone had previously informed you that medics are always busy reading, then you are mistaken because this is the Annual Nunsa [Nairobi University Nursing Students] Party 2016. It was a collaborative medics party because students from Medicine, Pharmacy and medical cadres made it to attend the event.
So, two university buses were used as transit to the far-stretched club. It is usually a comfort when the university buses are used to enable the party set the ball rolling when there is a multitude of people instead of waiting for individual people to arrive.
Party time: 8 pm – 1.30 am
INGRESSION TO THE VENUE
At around 9pm, the medical students had already landed on the hefty club grounds. The different colored lighting and the ambience was welcoming. The atmosphere of the place was receiving to the impertinent comrades. The aisles of the corridors and the ancient poles complement with green purple lights that lit in a certain haphazard way made the scene look more than attractive. To ingress at the gate, on had to show a ticket to prove you were one of the comrades. The flashing of cameras and glittering of teeth in the dark would be the most evident feature of this part. The medics did not disappoint in the clad sector. They were dressed to impress.
They had to relieve themselves by at least having to be in a different environment, being in a happy place, going out and seeing the world in a different way.
As soon as the paparazzi were in front of any group of students, they spontaneously smiled or posed in a great way to increase the photo output. Flashes and lights were the first thing one would be welcomed in with after getting inside the gate. They were later shown where they would stay so as the party would be set on officially.
The venue base was a huge hall made with ancient oaks. It was designed for such events. A well-equipped sound system had been fitted in the hall. A couple of Round tables enveloped with ancient chairs were all around for the comrades to secure positions where they would settle as the party went on.
The tables had been decorated with colorful mats, which had been arranged artistically with the glasses inverted upside down in circles. The catbird seat was reserved for the ‘gubernatorial’ people like the College of Health Sciences officials, Nunsa Officials, judges, The MC and the DJ at the corner. At the back of the hall, was a refreshments shop where one would purchase drinks including wine and the likes.
COMMENCING THE BANQUET
The MC welcomed everybody for attending the event. The College of Health sciences students were all smiles and squint-like.
THE ‘EATING’ PART
The MC and some other people shared what the event was about and talked about previous events. After the introductory, some few moments of socializing and sharing ideas, the medics had to ingest something to at least have the energy to sustain the entire event. The serving was outside the hall. One would be served from the outside and then get back inside the hall. It was done in a systematic way. The meals were awesome to everybody. The cameras and flashes could not be left out. Check them out.
Inside the halls, the paparazzi continued taking the pics as they posed and enjoyed their meals. It is always smart when people pose great for a pic. It makes it all look wonderful.
CROWNING OF MR. AND MISS NUNSA
So, this was towards the climax bit of the event, you had to dance and do all the crazy, intelligent and ambiguous tricks of dancing to make you scoop that title. It is a great title you know, especially in medical school. That despite your intelligence in class, you are still a crowned Mr. or Miss Nunsa in a certain year. The catwalks had to be performed by the guys and ladies who were broad enough to model on that very day.
If you were modeling, you had to walk in the middle line between the two portions of the hall so that everybody would see you. You had to walk back and forth severally while maintaining your dance. Photos from different angles could be taken by different comrades as their aspirant made his/her day on the examination aisle! Each and everybody were eagerly awaiting this part. The fellow medics would shout out to their best contestants as they wailed to show their appreciation to the judges at the catbird seat. They strutted to the podium of the venue as they showed their skills in an attempt to make the judges feel they deserve the award. At last, the winners were mentioned and crowned and the gifts awarded as usual. It is the norm in Nursing School. Those who tried but were defeated agreed to defeat peacefully and those who won made sure they share their smiles with the entire ‘congregation’.
THE AFTER-PARTY PICS
This was both outside and inside the hall. The entire place was packed. The students were ready for pics and this is how they posed.
