TEACHER JOYCE : BOY SCHOOL CHRONICLES

I was 25, a bachelor of Education Graduate from a prestigious University around The city Of Nairobi. I had just completed  my studies in Biology and Applied Sciences. That was my area of expertise. Due to the lag period I had heard previously that teachers can tarmac for sometime before getting a “good job” , I had opted out for sometime to negotiate a top job in one of the thriving private  prominent schools. 

I went for the interview and surprisingly, there wasn’t any harsh words nor appearances from The board. It consisted of 6 members. Two ladies and four gentlemen. All dressed to impress. Only the smiles and the teeth could say something good was cooking behind my back. I thought. Before, I walked out, they asked me about my reaction if I was to be placed in one of their  boys schools since they had a chain of schools both mixed and single schools. I was at first confused and reluctant because I didn’t know what would happen if I said I can’t teach in  a boys school. I automatically knew my dressing would change and I would be restricted to some official baggy looking clothing for reasons better keep them to myself. But since I really needed the job, I said a confident “yes”. They thanked me and I responded by greeting the six interlocutors and walked out of the room aside having many thoughts.

A human being is a creature who’s been created in a very complicated way. Whoever believes there is no supreme being that created heaven and earth, doesn’t understand the complicated physiology of human beings. Our brain is integrated to help us differentiate good and bad. To some, they have programmed themselves that the ‘bad’ is ‘good’ and vice-versa. This happens when someone kills for pleasure or as ‘they’ say ‘when I kill a non-member of my ‘family’ I go to heaven’. Such people view killing as normal and good in the eyes of whoever watches us. Anyway, our main aim of writing this article was to understand role change and behaviour.

How do we change our behaviour? What motivates? What is it that happens that one just changes his way of living and starts living in a completely different way? When you start thinking of such things, you get to put yourself in the shoes of someone who wants to change and you visualise on factors that may precede personal behavioural change. What are they? We have all changed our behaviours in one way or the other. Formal ways of changing behaviours are mostly in schools where the teacher tells a young kid that eating ball pen cork’s is not healthy or a mother disciplining her child because of touching dirt or playing with sharps. However, there are the non-formal ways in which we change behaviour. This is the best and most effective method of practice of changing behaviour because it comes from the inside.

BEYOND THE TUNNEL VISION

being trapped in this world of problems has been my entire life. I pray my children that they will fight for a better life in the years to come.

I can see the light beyond,

Light beyond the tunnel vision,

It dims and glows,

I perceive the happiness in the coming days,

Maybe it is not my happiness,

But destined for the sons and daughters of my grandchildren.

The feeling of ebullience just the moment you feel you are at a certain prestigious University is overwhelming. That moment, you feel your airways relax and phwex! Your big job now is to make a ‘massive catch’ at this big sea of different fish-sizes at the very end. Perusing the pages of medical school, you meet a world full of uniqueness and decency.

In the quiet environment of med-school, different students from various backgrounds interact together. These students have a similar goal -to become healthcare providers. These are doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists and medical laboratory students who in one way or the other must interact together to form a disease reduced mortality and morbidity.

I was in my preparation for my honeymoon and all I would think of is how the word just turns out to be so funny. People will, obviously give diverse definitions for it others may end up saying going to visit the moon with your honey ‘lover’ and others will definitely say moon being a place flowing honey and all you just want is be there and have honey for free not that honey is expensive but you just want to taste honey from the moon.
